It's that time of year again to show the true realities of trading and raise some money for a great cause. Yes I'm talking about the $50,000 challenge. For those of you not familiar with the challenge, it started last year when my good friend and CEO of Gecko Software, Lan Turner, offered up a trading challenge to me - one I most certainly couldn't refuse.
The goal for the $50,000 challenge is to use Track N Trade from Gecko Software to make as much money as possible in 50 days with a target of $50,000 using REAL money and a REAL trading account. So quite simply this year I'm going to take $25,000 and try to turn it into $50,000.
The challenge will show you everything I do before, during and after every trade - both bad and good, which means you can learn from all my mistakes and successes. And I'm quite certain there will be plenty of opportunities throughout our 50 days to earn and learn.
But First...
Before you read the details below, I do need to make one thing clear. I will NOT guarantee any success in this challenge whatsoever. The markets won't guarantee me any success so unfortunately I cannot pay it forward to you.
But I will guarantee that this challenge will:
1. raise money for a great cause (this year's charity is Room to Read.)
2. provide an awesome learning experience (Most people fail in trading because they never get this type of exposure to the markets and they never get access to a guru (unless they pay thousands and thousands of dollars). The problem with most guru's is that they were probably really good at one point in time and have earned the right to teach about their successes. But what about now? Wouldn't it be nice to actually learn alongside someone who is actually doing what he teaches right here right now? That's what the challenge is all about - practical learning in a REAL environment.
3. be a Challenge. (Anything that's worth doing is never EASY. Could you imagine what life would be like if everything in life was easy? Or if everything we wanted in life was just given to us? Now that wouldn't be much fun would it? This challenge will give us an opportunity to not only grow as a trader but also as a person. Whether we reach our goal or not the process will give us more experience & confidence in our abilities to accept the challenges of the markets and more importantly the challenges of life. I followed along with your $50,000 challenge and managed to make $34,524.25, on paper, in the process. I did this by simply duplicating the long term trades that you made, including a few that you said you were going to make but didn't. Those turned out to be some of my best trades. I avoided all day trades, as well as those trades that depended on you looking at how a particular commodity opened before deciding to make a trade. I only executed those trades that you fully decided upon, the night before you were going to make them. I was quite impressed by how easy it seemed. This was the first time, all year, that I consistently made money over a 50 day period.
